The FIA has announced that it is investigating whether further action should be taken against Sebastian Vettel following his clash with Lewis Hamilton during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Vettel, who is the current championship leader, hit the rear of Hamilton’s Mercedes while the safety car was out before swerving sideways and banging wheels with the Brit on lap 19 of a chaotic race.
The German accused Hamilton of “brake testing” him but the stewards found no evidence in the telemetry data of the Brit that he did “brake-test” Vettel.
The Ferrari driver was given a 10 second stop-go penalty for the collision but could now face further punishment with the FIA launching a full investigation.
The sport’s governing body will hold a meeting on the 3rd of July to further examine the causes of the incident and to decide if further action is necessary.
The outcome of the investigation will be made prior to the Austrian Grand Prix weekend.
