Top 5 Moments from Friday in Australia

Formula 1 is back and F1 Top 10 looks back at the five biggest moments from practice one and two ahead of the season opening Australian Grand Prix.

Force India’s Pink Car

After Force India announced a new livery change ahead of the 2017 season last week, we finally got to see their new pink car on track. The team have signed a long-term sponsorship deal with Austrian-based water technology firm BWT hence the new look.

Hamilton’s Blistering Pace

We were hoping for a much closer battle at the front of the grid in 2017 but if today’s practice sessions are anything to go by then expect Mercedes to dominate again. Lewis Hamilton was fastest by over half a second on Friday highlighting the improvements on the W08 since winter testing.

Palmer’s Crash

Surprisingly, Friday practice was largely incident free. However, Jolyon Palmer crashed his Renault at the final corner of the Albert Park circuit after losing the rear of his car. As a result the Brit’s Friday running was cut short.

Small Steps for McLaren

After a woeful few weeks of winter testing many were expecting McLaren-Honda to be at the back of the grid and not finish Sunday’s race. However, it looks as if they have made a small step in terms of reliability with no breakdowns during both practice sessions with Fernando Alonso 12th fastest.

F1 in 2017 is FAST

Lewis Hamilton’s best time of a 1.23.620 on Friday was within a tenth of a second of Sebastian Vettel’s lap record of a 1.23.529 set in 2011. Considering it’s only Friday then expect the lap times to get lower and lower as we head into qualifying tomorrow.
